Sofirn has made itself a solid name - in an industry that is as competitive as Piranhas fighting over a hapless fish. It's a tough market!!
In the current lighting arena you can get lights that are:
1. Cheap
2. Durable
3. Bright
But you can only pick two of those three, right?
Sofirn has managed to break out of that cycle, with lights that are very nicely priced, quite durable, and downright bright.
Welcome the Sofirn SP40.
This light utilizes a CREE XPL emitter. Further specifics on the emitter were not available.
It uses a shallow Orange peel reflector.
You can use this as an 18650 light OR a 16340 light (with added short tube)
What you get:
Light
Long tube
Short tube
2 Orings
USB charging cable
Stainless clip
3000 mAh Sofirn battery
Headband
Manual, welcome card
And, at the time of this posting....
Only $26!
The light is rechargeable of course.
Lets look at some pertinents.
I like the run-times. I would like to find a better run time graph to see how flat the regulation is. But 4+ hours @ 450 lumens is very respectable.
Headband is comfy, and works fine. The only thing is that the topstrap is not removable. However, the light is heavy enough to justify keeping it on.
Let's look at some videos!
Overview video.
And beam-shots.
Summary:
So far, so good.
I like this light. I mean,I have liked every light I have - made by Sofirn.
What I like:
The beam pattern is beautiful .
The UI is simple and sweet.
The shorty tube and clip is a nice addition.
3000 mAh battery
Didn't like:
The finish seems thin.
Cannot take top strap off of headband
Verdict?
WIN!! I read (please correct me if wrong) that this is Sofirns first true entry into the headlamp market. And I have to say they have made a solid impression. Many light companies make a tube type, 18650 headlamp like this, but fail at giving the light extra versatility, like a clip, for example.
I'm an outdoors-man. An avid one at that, headlamps are vital to me, this light will fit in well.
Price, quality, features. That is the core of Sofirn
Congrats to them on a job well done!
